Technical SEO

Let’s talk more about the 3 sections of SEO. Last week was our introduction to SEO and in those posts I talked about creating another set of 3 diving into each section more, so that’s exactly what we’re doing this week! Today we’re talking about Technical SEO, and in the next couple of posts we’ll be talking about Off-Page SEO and On-Page SEO.

What is Technical SEO? Technical SEO is exactly what you’d think it is; it deals with the technical components of your website such as page speed, site navigation, sitemaps, URL structure, and more. Why is this important? Technical SEO helps make your website fast, easy to navigate, user and mobile friendly, and more.

What are all of those technical components and what do they mean? Let’s do a quick run down…

Page Speed- The measurement of how fast the content on your page loads.

Site Navigation- The links within your website that connect your pages.

Sitemap- The blueprint of your site that helps search engines find and index all of your websites content.

URL Structure- Tells Google what each page of your website is about and how they relate to each other.

Now that we know what each component means,  let’s get into how to utilize them! Optimizing your images can help out a ton with your page speed. Bigger files take longer to load which can slow down your page speed. Hiring a web designer, like myself, can help improve your site navigation. Creating your own site is great in the beginning, but there’s way more that goes into it beyond adding pictures and text. Sitemaps can get a little confusing and I would probably need to make a blog post just for tackling this; but if you’d like to know more about how to set one up, I recommend looking into Google’s resources on it. URL structure is a super easy thing you can change that honestly makes a world of difference. You can go into those auto generated links for each one of your pages, posts, etc., and just simplify them. Instead of yoururl.com/J83jcji379nD for your contact page, just change it to yoururl.com/contact.

If you’re thinking “Man, this is too much...do I really need this”, I’m here to tell you YES you do need this. SEO is incredibly important to any business’ website. If you want to learn more about why we use SEO, I have an amazing blog post here on it. If you’d rather leave SEO to a professional, I offer amazing SEO in all of my packages! Next we’ll be talking about Off-Page SEO.

See you later.
